Welcome to DeWinkel – ‘The Shop’ for everyone who loves the world of collecting and collectibles. We think of ourselves as a gallery-gift shop, offer something a little bit extra special from around the world from Moorcroft Pottery to Steiff bears, products from across the UK and worldwide. We don’t sell online, so please make sure to visit next time you are in Grassington.

Gallery

We sell Moorcroft pieces and also stock original oil paintings, prints and cards by Amanda Clark as well as linocut prints by Louise Edwards.

Collectibles

We love a range of collectibles, including Moomin, Wallace and Gromit, and something a little more special such as Charlie Bears and Steiff.

Gifts

We have a variety of small gifts for special occasions, like scented candles, luxury soaps, incense, or maybe a special Emma Bridgewater piece.

Sales Assistant Wanted

Part time or full time

Role: Sales Assistant
Location: DeWinkel, Grassington, North Yorkshire
Hours: Part time or full time. The shop is open 7 days a week. Shifts are between 10am and 4pm.
Weekend availability is required on a rota basis.
Pay: National Minimum Wage (depending on age)
Start date: mid February 2026

About DeWinkel

DeWinkel is an independent gift shop relocating to the square in Grassington. We sell a carefully
chosen mix of homeware and gifts, including Steiff bears, soaps, candles, and cards. We are known
for a welcoming atmosphere, thoughtful recommendations, and excellent customer service.

The role

You will be an essential part of the day to day running of the shop, usually working independently,
but supported by a wider team of linked businesses in the village, James Macintyre & Co and The
Travel Lounge. Your main focus is to give every customer a warm, helpful experience, and drive sales
through great service and product knowledge. Training will be provided on the products we stock
and how we present them.

Key responsibilities

  • Welcome customers and offer friendly, knowledgeable help in a natural way.
  • Learn about our products and confidently recommend items that suit a customer’s needs.
  • Operate the till, handle payments, and process occasional returns or exchanges correctly.
  • Maintain high standards of presentation throughout the shop.
  • Create attractive displays, then clean and refresh shelves as needed.
  • Receive deliveries, check stock in, and store items neatly.
  • Keep an eye on shop security and follow basic opening and closing procedures.
  • Support the wider team with any other tasks needed to keep the shop running smoothly

Essential qualities

  • Approachable, friendly, and genuinely enjoys talking to people. This must come naturally.
  • Good memory for regular customers, and happy to build relationships over time.
  • Enthusiastic about gifts and well made products, and keen to learn.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Calm under pressure, especially during busy periods.
  • Comfortable working alone, and able to use initiative.
  • Basic numeracy and confidence with a basic till system.

Desirable qualities

  • Retail or hospitality experience.
  • An eye for display and detail.
  • A personal interest in the products we offer
